Marlene Moulton Janssen, President


Marlene Moulton Janssen is a retired librarian. She first served as a school media coordinator, then as middle management in the Great River Regional Library system, and finally, as library director in both small and large county systems. Her final position was as director for the Anoka County Library system.

The impact libraries have on the communities they serve has always been her passion. MILE, the Minnesota Library Association’s leadership institute and a major MLF project, was established while Moulton Janssen served as MLA’s president.


Mary Johnson , Vice President

Mary Johnson is a retired librarian who was fortunate to work 43 years in public libraries.

Her positions in children’s services were in two city libraries in Iowa, and for the library in Durango, Colorado.

Moving to Minnesota as an Assistant Director for a

regional library system was followed by a branch manager position to open a new library in the growing Dakota County city of Lakeville. Mary retired from the position of Assistant Director for Dakota County Library.

Maggie Snow, Treasurer

Minnesota’s academic, public, K-12, and special libraries. She’s worked primarily in public libraries, focusing on youth and families. She’s a past president of the Minnesota Library Association and currently serves as treasurer of the Minnesota Library Foundation.


Steve Harsin, MLA President

Steve Harsin, 2022 MLA President, Public Library Consultant, SELCO. Worked in a variety of public, academic and special libraries, and proud to have demonstrated small libraries can have a mighty impact in their community and beyond. MSLIS University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign.


Andy Cummings

Andy Cummings, Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief at Lerner Publishing Group. Lerner is one of the nation’s largest independently owned children’s publishers with more than 5,000 books in

print. For over 60 years, Lerner has created nonfiction and fiction books for pre-school to young adult readers and for libraries, classrooms, and homes across the country. I lead our terrific content development, design, and digital teams that conceive of and create over 500 titles per year.

Ben Trapskin

Ben is the founder of sleepsherpa.com but previously had a 13 year career in libraries. Most recently as the deputy director of the Dakota County Library from 2014-2016.
